Everyone is welcome to join a discussion of Passing by Nella Larsen.

Passing (1929), set primarily in Harlem, explores the relationship between two childhood friends and mixed race identity in the 1920s as racial passing became a common occurrence. Praised upon publication, the novel has since been celebrated in modern scholarship for its complex depiction of race, gender and sexuality, and is the subject of considerable scholarly criticism.

This program is co-sponsored with the Bacon Free Library. It is FREE and open to the public.
