On This Land Online

A digital resource for 3rd Graders

On This Land Online is a digital resource designed to help third graders connect with Natick’s past. For over twenty years, the Natick Historical Society has welcomed third-graders from Natick Public Schools into our museum to learn about our local history. With On This Land Online, teachers and parents can extend that learning well beyond our annual field trip.

On This Land Online includes three learning modules. Each one explores different aspects of Natick’s history and addresses learning goals in the Massachusetts third grade curriculum. The modules feature two 5-7 minute videos, a corresponding worksheet, and a thematic coloring page. All elementary schoolers and their families are invited to enjoy these resources.

Digital Learning Modules

M1: Archaeology and Artifacts

Module 1 explores the presence of Indigenous people on this land long before the settlement of Natick in 1651.

M2: Natick's Beginnings and Algonquian Languages

Module 2 explores communication in early Natick and the translation of the Bible into Algonquian languages.

M3: Maps and Natick Landmarks

Module 3 explores Natick’s geography and includes a brief tour of Natick’s historic landmarks.
