Natick Historical Society History Award

 

Each year the Natick Historical Society awards a scholarship to one student from Natick High School who demonstrates excellence in and passion for American history. This award has been presented to Natick students since 2016. Learn a bit about some of our past recipients!

Emerson Davis

Emerson, Natick High School ‘23, was the 2023 NHS Scholarship Recipient. At Natick High School, Emerson excelled in his AP history classes and pitched for the Natick High School baseball team. Passionate about human rights and helping others, Emerson organized a coat drive and collected over 340 coats. During the summer of 2022, Emerson interned for the Natick Historical Society and cataloged photographs, created protective book coverings, moved and reorganized collections materials, and wrote an extremely popular social media post about the Harwood Baseball Factory. This fall, Emerson will attend UMass Amherst as a history major and plans to be a history teacher. Good luck, Emerson!

 

Talia Gitlin

Talia, Natick High School ‘22, was the 2022 NHS Scholarship recipient. At Natick High School, Talia was a member of the National Honor Society and participated in many extracurricular activities including Girl Up Club, Connections Club, Game Changers Club, and Key Club. She was the founder and president of the Student Voice Forum, vice president of Equity Collaborative Club, and played varsity field hockey. This fall, Talia will attend Union College and looks forward to exploring new ideas, perspectives and philosophies through the study of political science. Good luck, Talia!

 

Max Freedman

Max, Natick High School ‘21, was the 2021 NHS Scholarship recipient. At Natick High School, Max particularly enjoyed his social studies classes including US Government, US History, Economics, and World History. He also ran on the Cross Country team and was an active member of Natick High’s Politics Club. Max will be attending Clemson University in the Fall of 2021 and plans to major in economics with a minor in political science. Good luck, Max!

JULIANA GREEN

Juliana, Natick High School ‘20, was the 2020 NHS Scholarship recipient. At Natick High School, Juliana was very interested in human rights and social justice. An exchange program to The Gambia in 2019 furthered her passion for human rights and she will continue that pursuit in the Fall of 2020 at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. At UMass she will design her own major in the social sciences that will incorporate the study of human rights, international development, international relations, history, sociology, and political science. Edward Rodino

Edward, Natick High School ‘19, was the 2019 NHS Scholarship recipient. At Natick High School, Edward was deeply involved in varsity athletics and ROTC. He also served as Vice President of the Key Club and led multiple community service events. Teachers describe Edward as passionate about history. Edward plans to major in history at Stonehill College in the fall of 2019. Good luck, Edward!

Elizabeth Lewis

Elizabeth, Natick High School ‘18, was the 2018 NHS Scholarship recipient. While at Natick High School, Elizabeth was a member of the National Honor Society, the Director of Artistic Design for the Natick High School Stage Crew, the founder and head of a local youth ACLU chapter, and captain of the Natick High School Varsity Sailing Team. Elizabeth will attend Mount Holyoke College to study history in the fall of 2018. Good luck, Elizabeth!


Katie Carew

Katie, Natick High School '17, was the 2017 NHS Scholarship recipient. A Natick native, she has grown up immersed in history on family road trips to close to 30 states and mentored by her history teacher aunt. We wish Katie well as she heads to the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, where she will study chemistry.

Temma Evantov

Temma, Natick High School '16, was the inaugural recipient of the Natick Historical Society’ Scholarship.Temma was an intern with NHS in 2015-2016, where she started building an inventory of more than 1000 books in the Society’s library. She was the designer of the Society’s 2015 book, “Have You Ever Wondered…? Natick Explained,” which was honored in the New England Museum Association Publication Awards, and co-designer of the second volume, “The Stories We Tell: Natick Explained.” We wish Temma the best as she heads to the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, to study computer science.
